Who this is for
Tutoring for Success is designed for K-12 students in foster care, adoptive families, kinship care, guardianship, group homes, or other at-risk circumstances. Students need internet access and a laptop or desktop computer when possible.
What happens
Students are assigned their own tutor and usually meet once a week for one hour. Families are asked to commit to a four- to six-month tutoring period so students have time to build consistency, trust, and steady academic support over time.
Academic support areas
Tutors work on fundamental reading and math skills and may also help with homework, note taking, and study skills. Volunteer tutors may include high school students, college students, current professionals, and retired professionals.
Partner support
Tutoring for Success launched as a virtual program in April 2020 in partnership with Learn To Be. Cobb EMC Foundation also sponsors Tutoring for Success, helping students access free one-on-one academic support.
Recorded impact
Legacy program records note that 2,867 tutoring hours were recorded from March 2021 through March 2022, and that not every tutor recorded hours. Recorded hours may understate the full amount of tutoring provided.
